On Thursday night my husband's grandfather passed away. He was 87 years old. This is the first loss of a close family member that Stephen has experienced in his adult life. Grandpa had struggled with dementia and Alzheimer's for quite some time before he went to live in a facility that could take care of his needs. Last week he fell getting out of bed and suffered some injuries. When he was admitted to the hospital they discovered he had several more severe issues with his lungs and heart. A few days later, he passed away. Stephen's family will be grieving this loss for quite a while.
When I first started dating Stephen, grandpa's memory had just begun to slip. He would often speak of his trips to Hawaii and his love of his wife. He would also be the first one to find the dessert. The man had a sweet tooth! I will always have several fond memories of grandpa. He was a sharp dressed man. Whenever there was an opportunity to dress up, he would suit up with a fancy tie. He also always had his Bible out and in the open. He also could offer up some of the most heart felt and eloquent prayers I have ever heard. I'm happy to have known grandpa and to be able to see the impact his life will continue to have on our family.
