Snotty Is Okay, Snobby Is Not

E has spent the past week with a seriously runny nose. Shame on me for typing this, but as a result, one night we actually had to wake up twice with her. Gasp! Most parents would order a public lashing for us considering twice in one night is out of the norm. We've actually only had to wake up with her twice in a night one other time, and that was the night she came home. This child just LOVES to sleep. Bless her. Bless us. Thankfully, I am pretty confident she is on the mend. Her goofy disposition took a light beating when she was feeling down, but these past two days I can see a noticeable improvement in her attitude. Coming through her first cold has made me again realize how much I appreciate my parents for not giving up on me as a baby. You see, I didn't sleep as a baby. Throw in a cold, and I'm pretty sure I was hell on earth. As out of sorts as I felt with a relatively happy, sick baby - I cannot even imagine how frustrating I was as a baby.

Evie is going to get more colds, and that is okay. Evie is going to get snot all over the two of us, and that is okay. Evie is going to have a messed up sleep schedule when she snots, and that's okay.

Segue into Snobby...

What's not okay is being Snobby. Especially if you are in a job that profits you the most through tips. Case in point, I often stop at a Sonic on the way to work. Two times I have had the same carhop there. Both times this has happened. I push the shiny red button and place my order for the Breakfast Combo Meal #12 with a Coke and a couple packets of salsa. "Sure! We'll have that right out!" I wait a few minutes and the carhop arrives. "Is there salsa in the bag?" ...

"I don't know. Check in the bag." {{Surly Face}}

Glances in bag. Discreetly puts the dollar bill I had put aside as tip back in the glove box.

"Yes, there's salsa in the bag. Here is the total. Thanks."

Really? You just said that to a paying/tipping customer. Same carhop has said the exact same things to me twice. She's not making any tips from my car.

Snobby is not okay. Especially when you are working for tips.

  1. I once heard Sonic carhops actually make a regular wage unlike true waiters, but no idea if it's urban legend or true.
