Rodeo: Blake Shelton

One of the many perks of living near Houston is that we have access to a lot of culture and entertainment. Every year we attend at least one night at the Houston Rodeo. This year I had tickets for the rodeos with performances by Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert. Last night Emily and I attended the rodeo with the Blake Shelton concert. I struggle with the rodeo portion of the evening because I hate seeing animals being subjected to being roped, tackled, yanked, punched, etc... I am constantly being reassured that this does not hurt the animals, but it does hurt my heart. I don't mind eating the cows, but I just don't like watching what happens to them at the rodeo. I actually root for the calves to get away during the roping, tackling events. Bull riding is the event where I feel like it's a fair match-up. They punch and annoy these bulls to get them irritated enough to buck. GAME ON, says the bull. They get to throw their riders around every time. The bull always has the upper hand. Muttin' Bustin' is just precious. I love seeing the little children holding on to the sheep. This too seems just adorable, and the sheep seem to be unfazed by it. That all said, here are some pictures from last night!

We had GREAT seats for watching bull riding. One bull actually busted through the gate to exit the arena floor with his rider still on. He did a number on the gate! The rider grabbed an overhead beam and let the bull run on.

The rodeo clowns are always entertaining, although I've never seen the barrel clown get in on the action. It may happen, but I haven't seen it.

Sisterly love! Thanks for coming with me, Em! I know it was a late night, but I had a lot of fun.

Blake Shelton! My only complaint about his performance was that he played Footloose. At least he did it first and got it out of the way. I'm not a fan of that song, original or remake.

His voice is really consistent. He sounds just as good live as on the radio. That always makes me happy!

Blake Shelton

He played every song I wanted to hear. He ended with "God Gave Me You". That's one of my favorites. Both the original and his version are fabulous.
