I absolutely adore the writing of Jen Hatmaker. She posted a new blog post yesterday, titled I am inept. Thank you for understanding. The premise of the post was simple. She shared things that she fails at on a day-to-day basis. The whole post was so entirely relate-able, that I am an going to share some things that I am a failure at.
1. Answering the phone
Even with a custom ring tone and the latest iPhone, I really do not like talking on the phone. I am awkward enough in person! When you take away the face-to-face contact, I am even more weird. I am much better and willing to respond to texts or emails.
2. Keeping up with laundry
For two people, we make an incredible amount of laundry. I just cannot stay on top of it! It's gotten so bad, that I have become a defeatist about it. I admit that I have dug into the mountain of laundry, located the overflowing hamper, and pulled out an item to throw into the dryer with a Bounce sheet to wear that day. It's a never ending battle that I have no desire to fight. You win, laundry.
3. I refuse to iron
If it requires ironing, I do not purchase it. If it can't be tossed in the dryer to remove the wrinkles, it has no business in my house. Period.
4. My bathroom counter will always be cluttered.
Despite my efforts to keep it organized, my counter in the bathroom is always covered. It is the catch all in our house. It is a mine field of products, jewelry, medicine, chargers, buttons, hair bands, hair clips, clippers, trash, receipts, etc... I even set up and use labeled tubs for the bathroom closet, but they have NOT solved this problem.
5. I do not check my mail often.
Luckily our mail is locked and secure, but I pity our poor mail carrier. Sometimes I go weeks without checking the mail. By the time I open it, it is so jammed full that I have to pull pieces out one at a time to loosen it up. I am constantly amazed that the carrier gets it all in there. If I were them I'd just pull it and make me go to the post office to pick it up. Note, my mailbox is not 5 miles from my house. It would take me all of 1 minute to get it. I blame auto-pay.
What are some of your failings friends? I know I'm not alone here!
... at least I hope I'm not.
