Fabulous Quotes

I am currently reading another Jen Hatmaker book. Below are some quotes from this book that I found both fabulous and convicting. Enjoy!

“When people are impoverished and desperate yet know we have everything they need in the cushions of our couches, it is easy to see how a tyrannical leader can influence them toward our harm.”
Interrupted: An Adventure in Relearning the Essentials of Faith

“We don’t get to opt out of living on mission because we might not be appreciated. We’re not allowed to neglect the oppressed because we have reservations about their discernment. We cannot deny love because it might be despised or misunderstood. We can’t withhold social relief because we’re not convinced it will be perfectly managed. Must we be wise? Absolutely. But doing nothing is a blatant sin of omission. Turning a blind eye to the bottom of the grounds of “unworthiness” is the antithesis to Jesus’ entire mission.”

“Releasing the compulsion to be right, to be respected, to be understood, to be winning – if not natural, it’s certainly a relief.”
Interrupted: An Adventure in Relearning the Essentials of Faith

“The starving, the unwanted old and unborn, the criminal, those of wrong color, ideology, sex, nation, class – whatever category renders a person least in our minds – bears the face of Jesus. It’s so maddening and overwhelming that Christians pretend not to hear it.”
Interrupted: An Adventure in Relearning the Essentials of Faith

“Jesus explained that when we ignore the least, we ignore Him. No amount of spinning or clever justification can neutralize Jesus’ point. If we claim affinity for Christ but turn a blind eye to those He identified Himself with, there is no honor it that. There is no truth in it.”

Matthew 25:40-45

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
