I've struggled to define myself in pretty much every chapter of my life. I always imagined you fit into a certain label nicely. Turns out, life is just not that simple. Athletic, Pretty, Smart, Creative, Liberal, Conservative, Religious, Atheist, etc... I've accepted the fact that few people are designated to one and only one thing.
I've established that I am neither republican nor democrat. Both parties seem like a contradiction to me. They both have opinions in areas that they just can't back up in other areas.
I'm aware that my family will never look like the families in the storybooks. I know that I am going to have to search the internet high and low to find dolls, books, and other items where a family like ours is represented.
While religious (I attend a Baptist church), there is not an evangelical bone in my body. You'll never find me being overly zealous at sharing my beliefs with others. It's just not my style. I also really love to have a drink every now and then, even dance.
Despite some personal convictions, I appreciate it that people are free to make their own choices. Even if they are not choices I would make. I'm pretty sure I've made some choices that leave people scratching their heads. I'm good with that.
I embrace that fact that I will always struggle to define myself. There's something liberating about not fitting into a certain label. There's something beautiful about being a spork.
How are you a spork?
