I Really Shouldn't Be Laughing

Yesterday Mom was playing back a recording on her phone. Evie heard the sound so she waddled over to my desk to see what was the source of the noise. She grabbed a hold of my desk drawer handle and pulled herself onto her tippy toes to investigate further. At that point, she pulled on the drawer just enough to pull it back. Once the momentum started, gravity did the rest. She fell back, pulled the desk drawer out with her where it landed... on her face.

At this point a good mother would have gone "OH NO! My poor baby is injured!", but what did this slacker do... I broke into hysterical laughter. Y'all it was the funniest sequence I have ever seen. If it would have been caught on camera, I'm sure I wouldn't be alone here. Don't worry, I managed to laugh and pick her up at the same time. I didn't just point and laugh at her! I picked her up and patted her back and whispered, "Shhhhhh...You're okay." in between chuckles. About 5 seconds later the whole incident was forgotten, and we went on with our day.

Sadly, this morning the evidence of her tumble is written across her face. Or nose, to be exact. Now I'm faced with the task of making sure this battle wound doesn't leave a scar. AA skin responds so different that Caucasian skin. Her new skin will be so much lighter once the scab comes off, so I'll have to make sure that fresh skin is treated delicately. I'm so thankful for this very helpful blog, Chocolate Hair, Vanilla Care. It provides wonderful information for families like ours.

And just like that, I am totally out of the running for Mother of the Year
