It has always ticked me off when I see people throw trash or cigarette butts out of their cars. I've always felt like the drivers that do this do not feel as though they should have to be in the presence of their own garbage, but apparently they feel like everyone else should be expected to live with whatever they toss out the window. I definitely think these drivers are arrogant and/or negligent. I also feel like if you smoke, you should keep your cigarette butts in the car with you. I think a lot of people don't want to keep their cigarette butts in the car with them because of the odor. If you don't like the smell, we probably don't either so don't just pass it off on us. If you don't like the smell in your car then you probably won't like what they're doing to your lungs people!
A few months back, I was introduced to a web page where you can go to enter in a few pieces of information about who you saw littering. They will then send the person a plastic trash bag and a letter reminding them not to litter. GENIUS.
On the way to work this morning the car in front of me tossed a cigarette butt out of the car. Thanks to Siri, I was able to dictate his license number, car color and model. Once I got into work it only took about 3 minutes to submit the information on the web page (link below).
I don't do this to be a snitch, nor do I actively seek out litter bugs. I simply believe that what they are doing is wrong, and if I see them do it right in front of me, I'm going to do something about it. They won't be getting a ticket. They'll just receive a notice that someone was paying attention when they made the decision to toss the cigarette butt out of the window. Whenever I see people littering, it actually makes me more compelled to evaluate the choices I make concerning my own waste and recyclables. So thank you person in the white Cobalt. You have made me all the more motivated.
