Stephen and I have always said that we would like a boy cat, if we found one that could handle being around dogs. We certainly don't want to traumatize the cat or upset our dogs. In the past month or so, we've really had it on our hearts to see if there was a cat out there who needed a home who would be a good match for us. Thursday I looked at Friendswood's shelter list and saw one kitten who was listed as good with dogs and kids. Looking closer, I noticed he was an orange domestic short hair. Now, back up 27 years and you will find a baby Shelley asleep in her Garfield nursery. Since then I've always had a thing for orange cats! I arranged to go check out this cat, named Maxwell, on Friday afternoon. Upon meeting it became clear that this is one laid back and passive kitty. He'll let you hold him without struggling, and he loves to be petted. He also purrs louder than any other cat I've ever been around. I called Stephen and he was all for adopting him. I quickly ran to Walmart and got all of the items to make sure Max was happy in our house. As I checked out, the cashier said, "You might as well just have a baby!" I smiled and replied, "Yeah, that's not really working out for us, so we have furry babies instead." Poor cashier, open mouth insert foot moment! Friday evening we picked up Max and brought him home. Since then he's started to explore the house more and more. He lets Bella mother him, and he's really interested in getting to know Radar, but Radar isn't looking to meet Max any time soon. I need to schedule an appointment to have him fixed. We also need to continue monitoring him to see if he needs to have interventions for his scratching of furniture or household items. So far he hasn't shown himself to be destructive, but if he so much as lays a paw on Papa's recliner, it's going to be on like Donkey Kong. Hopefully he'll continue to go to the scratching post and mat we've laced with Kitty Crack (catnip).
I can't get the darn picture to rotate... grr.
