Lent is the 40 day (Sundays do not count) Christian season of preparation before we recognize the death of Jesus Christ on the cross and his Resurrection from the grave. Christians prepare by observing a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline. The purpose is to set aside time for reflection on Christ - His suffering and His sacrifice, His life, His death, burial and Resurrection. This brief background and more information can be found at this webpage.

I have already began thinking of ways I can observe the 2011 Lent Season in a way that I am able to truly reflect on Christ. Many Christians will "give something up" for 40 days, some only eat fish on Fridays. I considered a forty day absence from Facebook, forty days listening only to the local Christian radio station and a few other things. Last night I finally arrived at what I think is a great way to spend these special 40 days. I finished reading a book last night called, Be Intolerant - Because Some Things Are Just Stupid by Ryan Dobson. This book really made it obvious that all Christians are meant to share the truth of our faith with others. This is an area I am very weak at. I don't like to seem pushy or judgemental, but there really is only one was to God and that is through his son Jesus Christ. It is our responsibility to lovingly try and pull people off the road that leads to the dark pit and set them on the narrower road to know Him. Did you know there are 332 clear prophecies and predictions in the Old Testament that are literally fulfilled in Christ? There is a lot more information about this in the book I read, so I encourage you all to read it.

So what I am going to do for 40 days to be more focused on Christ? I will only be posting bible verses to Facebook. By doing this, I'll be more focused on Him than on myself. I also hope that people on Facebook will see the verses and be motivated to look them up and learn more about our Lord.

I hope that you'll take the time to watch my Facebook for these 40 days. You may already know Him, but living in His Word will always bring you closer to Him. I know it certainly will for me!
I wish my Methodist Church witnessed more as the Jehovahs do. We tend to be a quiet people not really ashamed of our faith but certainly not bragging about it. We were supposed to go into the world to spread the message.
