Need Vs. Preference

Last night we met with our Children's Ministry Pastor over dinner to discuss getting plugged into our church as Sunday School Teachers. We are very excited about getting involved in this ministry, but are torn between the two options in front of us. Currently we attend the 9:30am Traditional Worship Service, which I adore! The music is blended traditional and a little modern, there is a full orchestra every Sunday, there are pews, organs, piano, etc... It's just the style of worship I enjoy. There is also an 11:00am Contemporary Service at our church. We have never attended this service because we've always preferred traditional worship. Right now our church has a tremendous need for someone to step in and teach the 4th/5th grade Sunday School class that MEETS AT 9:30am (which is when our preferred worship service is). This class is bursting at the seams with close to 30 students. There is also a need, not as pressing, for a 1st grade teacher at 11:00am (after our preferred worship service). We've been told that both classes have a wonderful and easy to follow curriculum, and they'll be happy to have us at either hour. We are planning to observe both options. We're observing the 9:30am - 4th/5th grade class on Sunday, Feb. 13 and then we'll observe the 11:00am - 1st grade class on Sunday, Feb. 20. After we observe each class we'll make a decision on where we feel most called to serve.

I am worried about making a decision between the Church's greater need (teachers for the 9:30am class) and our preference of a traditional worship service (which would put us teaching 1st grade at 11:00am). Please, PLEASE pray that God leads us to wherever we are best suited. I am going to faithfully put this decision in His hands. Pray that my ears and eyes are open to see and hear where He is calling us.

PS. IT IS COLD OUT THERE!

  1. I admire you generosity! I don't mean to sound selfish, but don't forget that worship is a very personal thing, and it's important that you're comfortable and fulfilled in that environment, too. I'm with you 100% on preferring a traditional worship service!

The church will be grateful for your service, no matter what it is!
