Hurry Up & Wait

The last week has been memorable, to say the least.

Thursday 5/27 : Killer back pains throughout the day. Go for a hot stone massage after work. I feel better for about an hour after the massage before the pain returns. I now think this was my body’s initial reaction to the impending stomach bug!

Friday 5/28 : Go to breakfast at IHOP. My stomach is bothering me, but I assume it’s just because I’m hungry. Pains and turning stomach continue to intensify throughout the day. Friday night I begin running a fever.

Saturday 5/29 : All hell breaks loose. I was in bed all day running a fever up 103.5. Fever finally breaks around 11pm. I finally get enough relief from the pain and discomfort to sleep.

Sunday 5/30 : I wake up to Steve telling me that he has been throwing up. I still do not feel well, and I’m in pain from having such an intense case of chills from the fever on Saturday. My stomach continues to revolt! We spend all day in bed. We decide not to go to Ft. Worth today.

Monday 5/31 : I got enough medicine in my system to make the trip to Ft. Worth. With the symptoms masked, I am able to enjoy some time with my cousins. Stomach does continue to churn without causing too much of an issue.

Tuesday 6/1 : Medicine is still doing a great job masking the symptoms, so we go to our interviews. The interviews went wonderful! Our caseworker, Betty, is awesome. We were asked about us as a couple, how we’ll parent, about our families, and other things. A few questions were worded oddly, but I think we had clear responses about our motivations and intentions. After the interview we get in the car and head home. My stomach continues to churn.

Wednesday 6/2 : At 2am all of the brutal symptoms return. I lay awake debating more medication. Decide to take a little and reassess in a few hours. The sun comes up and I decide, I’ve had enough of this! I do not go into work. I call and make the first open appointment with my doctor. The diagnosis – Dysentery. Yup, you read right. Doc put me on antibiotics and a pain med for the churning stomach. She told me I could return to work tomorrow. Get the email later in the day that our Home Study will be Monday, June 7 at 10am. Woo! Spend the remainder of our anniversary laid out on the couch trying to be comfortable. Husband had flowers delivered to the office, so my buddy was sweet enough to deliver them to our house yesterday evening. The arrangement is three beautiful bundles of pink, yellow, and white roses.

Thursday 6/3 : I return to work with the still churning stomach. I called doctor and she said to up my meds. I’m hoping this works.

This weekend Stephanie and Hayden are coming into town. We’ll certainly put her to work as we prepare our house for the home study. There are a few areas that need organizing before Monday.

Stay Tuned…
