Get outta town!

This weekend we packed it up and went to San Antonio to celebrate our three year anniversary. Our anniversary was actually the beginning on June, but we decided to wait until we found a less busy time to go. We stayed at the Palacio del Rio right off of the Riverwalk. Our room had a pretty sweet view, but our balcony was small and not level. I was TERRIFIED to go out on it.When we got to San Antonio on Friday evening around 7, we were both STARVING. I had read about this German restaurant on the Riverwalk called Shilo's before we made the trip. It was only about a 5 minute walk from our hotel. Shilo's has a pretty good menu and great prices! I got the Kraut Dog - it had the best sauerkraut I have ever had on it. Stephen got the Wienershnitzel. He really enjoyed his meal as well. He really, really loved their spicy mustard! I thought it was way too horseradish-ee and too spicy! After dinner I was exhausted and knew we had an early Saturday morning, so it was back to the hotel to turn in early. All smiles even though his wife made him take this picture! What a good sport! On Saturday morning, Stephanie, Brandon, and Hayden picked us up at the hotel and we set off to the San Antonio Zoo to meet up with Rachel, Mike, and JR. Stephen and I both LOVE zoos. Stephen pretty much runs through the zoo because he gets so excited. I'm thinking of investing in a kiddie leash for him.Stephanie, Brandon, and Hayden walking through the children's section of the zoo.JR was such a good sport riding in his backpack on Mike's back. He is such a cutie!Mike and JR checking out a koi pond. After our zoo trip, we were hot and hungry. We all set off to eat at Stonewerks in the Quarry. The food was yummy, but the company was even better!JR is sharing his yummy lunch with his buddy Hayden.Check out that cute grin! I mean grins! You look gorgeous too, Stephanie!Hayden's bashful face. He does this when he walks too. He puts his arm out in front of him and rests his head on it.After lunch, Stephen and I headed back to our hotel where we spent a few moments cooling off before we set off to explore. We ended up in a sport bar called, Tex's. We had drinks and enjoyed a basket of popcorn. It was back up the room for me after that. Stephen spent a couple of hours walking around the Alamo while I read my book and made dinner reservations for Acenar.Stephen and I had never been to Acenar before, but Emily loves it. We decided we'd go and see what all the fuss is about. I had a tuna margarita with my meal. It was SUPER YUMMY! I don't know what about it made the difference, but it was the tastiest margarita I've ever had.We decided what better place to have our first table side guacamole as an appetizer. OMG! Why have we not had this before?!It was AMAZING! We scarfed it down! Having the margarita and this guacamole is worth the trip to the restaurant in my opinion.Stephen ordered the duck crepes at Acenar. He thought they were pretty good, but said he'd try something else next time. My handsome hubby is so good to let me take his picture. He knows we look like such tourists when we pull out the camera! We sat outside at Acenar. The temperature was very comfortable, but the restaurant was battling a bee infestation. That's why the cop is in the background of this picture talking to the manager. Our waitress (also in the background) said that earlier in the day one of her customers got stung! Fortunately, that was the only bee casualty that day. Or unfortunately? I told Stephen I wish they'd just sting me and die! My entree was the shrimp tacos which were the best shrimp tacos I have ever had. They had the most perfect balance of spice and flavor! My mouth is watering just thinking about them. After dinner we wandered around downtown and I snapped this shot of the Alamo. Every time we go to San Antonio, Stephen will go visit it. I, however, have seen the Alamo about 5 times already. I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed since the last time I saw it, so this is as close as I got to it.These flowers were in our hotel room during our stay. I really loved the colors of the flowers! If I knew we were going to have a baby girl, these would definitely be the nursery colors. On Sunday morning we went up to New Braunfels to have lunch at Clear Springs. Any place that prides themselves on their fried food is good in my book!Stephen had a great time this weekend. I usually am such a bum on vacations, but I made it a point to enjoy this quick trip by staying busy. Usually Stephen is the one who is the adventurer, while I am the lay-by-the-pool type. I know that our vacations as a duo our numbered now that we are going to be showing our profiles to birth mothers. It was nice to have this quick trip together, just the two of us. It was a lot of fun, but I look forward to the day when we make these trips with a baby! Our crazy dogs were so excited to see us! They were crazy when they saw us! After their excitement wore down, they collapsed! Bella kicked up her heals on Radar and they took a nice long nap. We had dinner on Sunday evening with Mollie. Jonathan deployed to Afghanistan this weekend, so we'll make it a point to include her in our plans while he is away. Please pray that his current deployment ends with a safe return.
